"Dad, I need to talk to you."

"Hey!  Just a minute.  You of all people should know how hard I work.  Look at all the trouble your mother and I went through raising you.  It wasn't easy having you as a son!"

"I know, I know!  I wish I could have just been normal."

"You should never wish to be something you're not.  Be proud of who you are."

"Are you proud of me?"

"I'm your father.  Of course I'm proud of you."

"Will you still be proud of me if I don't choose to go through with it?"

"I can't answer that question."

"Why not?"

"Because you will go through with it."

"How do you know?  You don't know everything!"

"Oh no?  I know a whole lot more than you.  You will do it."

"But it's not fair!  Couldn't you have picked someone else?"

"I'm sorry, son.  It has to be this way."

"Mom will be heartbroken."

"She will have the strength to carry on.  Don't you worry about that."

"You hate me..."

"Don't talk foolishness!"

"Why else would you make me do this?!"

"Because I love you and I trust you to make this decision yourself."

"But it's not even MY decision.  You said I'm doing it no matter what."

"What I say and what you choose are two different things.  I know you will choose to do it because you're a kind person who always does the right thing."

"I need some time to think about this..."

"I can give you one night.  That's all."

"All right.  Can my friends come with me to help me think?"

"Of course.  Make the most of the situation."
